Vitamin C is required by the immune system to perform efficiently.
Humans along with other primates lack the enzyme to create vitamin c, so we have to get it by eating food with Vitamin C, like apples, pears, and oranges.
This orange represents Vitamin C it goes into the stomach and ends up in the blood vessels, then attaches itself to neutrophils.
The neurtophils act like sniffer dogs out bacteria, grab it, and then send off a beacon using the Vitamin C.
The signal attracts macrophages. One of those Macrophages envelope the bacteria and ship it away.
If the neutrophil doesn’t have enough vitamin c the signal is not activated the macrophage misses the bacteria and the neutrophil dies in vain.
Doctors often administer antibiotics which put a lot of stress on the neutrophils and quickly uses the store of Vitamin C in your body. This means the signal cannot be activated until more Vitamin C is put into the blood vessels into the neutrophils.
Another action the vitamin c so it has to be admitted intravenously.
